How To Improve Digestion

You’ve tried everything when it comes to improving your digestion, haven’t you? And I mean all. the. things.

Doctors, lab tests, and even avoiding your favourite foods like gluten and dairy. You’ve seen specialists and googled your symptoms at all hours of the night. But you still aren’t feeling better. Not even a little.

While your symptoms can be related to more than the gut, you can’t heal if you don’t address the gut first. It’s the hub of your body, the control centre for what your body is able to breakdown, digest, and absorb. It’s important, but somehow never treated as critical when trying to heal.

So if you’ve got symptoms and you’re suffering, I really want to encourage you to focus on your digestion first. Here are a few great free resources to help you out:

HOW TO IMPROVE DIGESTION BY DITCHING THESE THINGS

#1 – Late nights for a good night’s sleep

You know that nutrition is related to gut health, but lifestyle habits have a huge impact as well.

In this 2019 study by BMC Gastroenterology, poor sleep was associated with digestive symptoms. So getting a good nights sleep is important if you’re looking to improve your digestion. Of course, it will also help with mood, energy, reduced brain fog, and less cravings.

Getting between 7-9 hours of sleep is recommended.

#2 – Lots of meat for lots of plants

I’m not saying you can’t eat meat, but I’d like you to think about the benefits of including more plants.

To better understand the impact of meat on your body, I’d encourage you to read The China Study. It’s an eye-opener that will motivate you to include more plants in your diet!

When it comes to digestion, plants provide fibre which is one of the most important things you can focus on. It helps to feed your microbiome, provide nutrients, and aid in elimination.

#3 – Daily coffee for matcha tea

Your morning coffee habit is important to you, I understand because I love mine too. But let’s look at this from the perspective of improving digestion.

Coffee stimulates the bowels through suppressing gut bacteria and increasing motility. This can also lead to a loss of magnesium.

A great alternative is Matcha tea (green tea). It’s a source of antioxidants, good for digestion, and makes a delicious latte! Try my Matcha Oat Latte and see what you think.
