Description
You can’t beat the smell or taste of freshly baked homemade bread. Try this simple recipe and you’ll be blown away at how easy it really is!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cup hot water
- 1/3 cup cold-pressed extra virgin oil
- 1/3 cup raw honey
- 2 teaspoons blackstrap molasses
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 6 1/2 cups spelt flour
- 2 teaspoons dry active yeast
Instructions
- Place water, oil, honey, molasses & sea salt in mixing bowl. Mix until combined. Add 2 cups flour and mix again. Add yeast and mix. Change to dough hook, add 4 cups flour and knead.
- If dough is still sticky add more flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until it is the right consistency. Never exceed 7 1/2 cups.
- Dough should be tacky, but not sticking to the sides of the bowl. Cover the bowl with a towel and let it rise for 40 minutes.
- Spray 2 loaf pans with olive oil. Knead dough one last time. Drop dough on floured surface and knead a little until it is slightly less sticky.
- Divide dough in half. Take half and turn the dough under itself over and over again until you have a loaf shape. Drop into pan. Do the same with the other half.
- Cover the pans and let rise until almost double in size (or until they are your desired size).
- Preheat oven to 350. Bake for approximately 35 minutes.
- Let cool completely then place in brown paper bag and wrap in a plastic bag. Will keep fresh for a week pretty easily.
Notes
Store in an airtight container. Do not refrigerate.
I use my KitchenAid Pro 6 qt mixer with the dough hook, but this recipe can definitely be done by hand and I’m sure it could also be adapted to work in a bread maker
Make it Vegan
Use pure maple syrup instead of honey.
