Thanksgiving is right around the corner (well, here in Canada, eh!) and that means another holiday of over-indulging, wine and then the guilt.
Sounds fun, right?
Not really.
Here are a few tips to keep your Thanksgiving in check:
- Moderate your plate – Your plate should always be in moderation, and holidays are no exceptions. Teach your kids this young!
- Choose either wine OR dessert – not both! It’s important to choose where you’ll indulge and to not go crazy with everything.
- Make half your plate veggies – and no less. This way you’ll fill up on the healthy foods and not the more tempting calorie and sugar dense stuff. And by veggies, I don’t mean covered in cheese or marshmallows. Can I get an amen?
- Stay hydrated. This will help you be more aware of your hunger levels while helping your body flush out any toxins that might, ahem, be consumed.
- Eat a huge salad before guests arrive. Is it weird that I’m telling you to eat before you eat? Well, I am. Filling up on some fiber and nutrients will help you make smarter choices and prevent over-eating. Even the kids should get in on this!
- Fit in a workout – no joke. Get your family out for a bike ride, walk, run or do a strength workout before the festivities begin.
- Bring a healthy dish, like my Apple Cranberry Stuffing (it’s soooo good!).
Going into the holidays with a health mindset and understanding that you can enjoy foods and still care for your body is really the most important thing you can do for your health.
