The topic of weight loss can be a tough one to address.
Though everyone seems to think it’s as simple to fix as “calories in vs calories out” (which is a whole other topic I’ll have to debunk one day!) – it’s really not that simple. Not even close.
You’ve probably heard me say before that your weight is a symptom of your health issue, not the actual root cause – and that couldn’t be more true!
So often we put ourselves into a box of lacking self-control, needing to go on a diet, or being unmotivated, that we tend to miss the bigger picture. You know, the one that can lead us straight to the root cause.
If you’ve tried but haven’t had much success either losing weight, maintaining weight, or even gaining weight, there’s a high chance the problem starts in your gut. If you discover the root cause your weight will shift as you heal!
HOW YOUR GUT IMPACTS WEIGHT LOSS
It’s as simple as this – healthy and balanced gut bacteria play a major role in your weight.
The organisms living in your gut can impact your metabolism, your weight, and how your body stores your food. An imbalance can mean that the “healthy” foods you’re eating aren’t being properly broken down or metabolized because of this shift in gut bacteria.
So yes, you may be eating “healthy” foods … but they may not be healthy for you at this time, until you get that gut stuff sorted out.
Same can be said for fluctuations in your weight as well as trouble gaining weight – all are impacted by an imbalance in your gut bacteria which can shift your body’s ability to metabolize properly.
WHAT CAUSES AN IMBALANCE
An imbalance in gut bacteria can be caused by several things:
- Processed and packaged foods
- High stress
- Lack of sleep
- Antibiotics
- Low immune function
- Imbalanced diet
Re-balancing can be as simple as shifting the diet, to adjusting your lifestyle, to supplements, to a complete gut healing protocol. It all depends on the extent of the imbalance and if there’s any damage to the gut because of it.
SIMPLIFYING WEIGHT LOSS

Start by cleaning up your diet, reducing your stress, increasing your sleep, and getting active.
